Day 47: Spain Begin to Show Promise

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

Chile may be slightly disappointed with their performance against the Spaniards but it does setup nice regional derbies in the Last 16 with the South Americans taking on Brazil and an Iberian showdown for Spain.

That was never a sending off either.

Day 46: Humbled

Friday, June 25th, 2010

"What you mean you don't know how to do 'thoughtful'? Fuck it look constipated then."

The shock story in Group wasn’t that the Kiwis didn’t lose a match, or didn’t finish bottom – it was that the Italians did. Unable to get going surely it’s the last we’ll see of this particular generation of the Azurri.

Day 41: More of the Same

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

Couldn’t bring myself to watch the final game last night. The previous two had sapped all my enthusiasm, spirited as the Aussie’s attempt at a win was. Whatever, the much vaunted African strength going into the tournament appears like a lot of things in this world cup to be over-hyped.

The retribution and self-doubt that inevitably follows England let downs continues apace. Rest assured though more voluminous inane clap trap will be regurgitated in time for the final game v Slovenia on Wednesday afternoon. (more…)
